Common functions of business intelligence technologies are reporting, online analytical processing,
analytics, data mining, process mining, complex event processing, business performance management,
benchmarking, text mining, predictive analytics and prescriptive analytics.

Business analytics (BA)

Types of analytics
Decisive analytics: supports human decisions with visual analytics the user models to reflect reasoning.
Descriptive Analytics: Gain insight from historical data with reporting, scorecards, clustering etc.
Predictive analytics (predictive modeling using statistical and machine learning techniques)
Prescriptive analytics recommend decisions using optimization, simulation etc.

Implementation:
Existing: Olden days we used to implement everything on our own using basic graph/charting tools.

Suggested: Build frame work with basic tools to longevity or go with self service software for quick returns. Architect need to decide based on business needs. In current world we need to keep mobile users in mind while designing solutions. Mobile devices need rich UI and lighter data sizes to CPU power and band width issues.
